Whether it’s the new year, or a new week, it is always nice to have a chance to have a fresh start and fill in a season refresh in your journal. If like me you’ve been using The Mama Book for a while or you’ll be starting fresh, we want to make sure we are getting the most out of our few minutes of peace and time in our journal. Here are some simple ways to help us to make the most of The Mama Book.
Choose a time – the best thing for me is to note down a couple of things at the end of the day, or before bed. Another time or place may be better for you- see 5 times to journal here for ideas! Choosing a time should help you get into the habit if you are not already doing so.
Just start– often our expectations and ideas of how long things will take cause us to keep putting them off. Just starting helps us to see it’s a lot easier than we thought! It doesn’t have to be complicated or look a certain way- just a few notes scribbled on a page is better than a mess in your head. If you’ve not filled in your big picture pages and they are overwhelming you- flip through them so that you can think about them and then jump into a season refresh if that is easier for you than feeling like you need to fill it all in in order. I wouldn’t skip them entirely as understanding our core is so important when it comes to setting our focuses and priorities as mamas but you don’t have to write it all down right away.
Get creative – don’t feel like you have to use it a certain way. If you prefer printing photos of your week to writing down your joys- do that. Have it in your bag rather than by your bed. There are no rules other than its supposed to help you! (5 ways to use your journal here if you want ideas!)
Be part of the community – if you’re seeing reminders on social media and here on the blog then taking some time with you journal should be nearer the top of your mind! Make sure you’re on our newsletter list (and getting access to the printables) by using one of the boxes at the bottom of on the home screen. Emails slip into your inbox every so often to remind you to take some time to breathe when life is feeling busy
Let go of guilt – I deliberately left the weekly spreads undated and season refreshes open so that you can use it the way that makes sense for you. If you lose it for a week (sadly this has happened to me somehow!), are on holiday and leave it behind or for any other reason manage not to touch it for a while, shake off the temptation to feel bad about it and just enjoy having a bit of mental space now you have found it again, come home or whatever!
Look back– when you’re a few weeks or months in, it is so so sweet to look back and see how far our children have come and how far we as a mama have come. Flicking through past season refresh parts, seeing how our children have changed and grown, seeing lessons learnt through good times and hard times spurs us on and reminds us we can grow right where we are.
The best way to make the most of The Mama Book is ultimately to use it- and use it in the way that works best for you. Whether that’s an hour each week or a couple of minutes each day, work out what helps you best to find the mental space you need so that you can live with joy and intention and be the mama you are created to be.
